H1N1 (formerly the Swine Flu)
Information
Dr. Mark J. Raivetz, Superintendent of Schools, has
communicated with the district's staff and parents about
the
preparations with respect to the H1N1 virus, the need to ensure the
health and safety of the children, and the district's commitment to keep
all informed as new information is received. If you have any questions
about the H1N1 virus, the best source of information is the Center for
Disease Control -
http://www.cdc.gov/H1N1flu/. Additionally, Camden County Board of
Health has important information as well -
http://www.camdencounty.com.
Below are some recommendations on how you and your family can stay
healthy.
HOW CAN YOU PREVENT THE SPREAD OF FLU?
- Wash hands
- Cover coughs and sneezes
- Clean commonly shared items
- Keep child/self home when sick
- Consider vaccinations for both
the seasonal flu (available now) and Novel H1N1 (when available)
- Ensure adequate nutrition and
hydration
- Ensure 8-12 hours of sleep a
night depending on the age of your child
PLANNING FOR THE FLU
- Keep your child home when they are sick
- Children may return to school
when they are fever free for 24 hours WITHOUT a fever reducing agent
like Advil or Tylenol
- Make sure ALL of your contact
numbers are current
- Identify a contact that can
pick up your child in a timely manner if your child is sent home
sick
- Plan for childcare at home if
your child is sick
- Monitor the health of the other
members of your household
- If your child or other member
of your household has a special health issue (asthma, diabetes,
pregnancy, or is immunosuppressed) talk to their healthcare provider
to determine the appropriate steps to take

Character Education Program - CHARACTER
COUNTS
CHARACTER
COUNTS! is a character education program that the Haddon Township School
District is implementing in our elementary schools. The program provides
students, parents, teachers, and administrators with goals and common
language in order to demonstrate and promote good character. The program is
fluid and is easily molded to fit the specific needs of any organization,
including our district. It is also pervasive in that it can become part of
every aspect of the district; not simply an "add-on" program that the
teachers must fit into their already busy schedules. The program also has
components geared specifically for athletic organizations, such as the
H.T.A.A., as well as entire communities. We are examining these divisions
with the intention of making good character something that is practiced and
encouraged in all aspects of our students' lives.
